Ho Hum - Typical Sunay Night

Not much going on today. I tried to clean up the house a bit, but anyone who's ever been over to my place knows what a futile thing that is. Other than that, our new roommate took us to Cici's Pizza. A free meal is always welcome, and I love their buffalo chicken pizza. This evening I didn't do much other than do some much-needed updates to Marble Stage's database. It's information I'm going to need for the party I am organizing.

I hate Sunday nights. I always say this, but it's always true. I'm just not willing to give up on my weekend. At least this week I have my birthday to look forward to. Which reminds me: A belated happy birthday to Nicki, and an early happy birthday to Crispy. I believe there are some other birthdays coming up, but I'm forgetting them at the moment. I'm sure it will come up sometime.

I've also got "True Blood" to look forward to this week. It's actually shown at this point, but I don't have that channel anymore, so I'll have to obtain a copy through alternative means. Thanks to my friend Anita, I've read the second book in the series, so I know a bit about what's going to go on, but they don't stick 100% to the books, so there will be plenty of surprises for me. I may pick up the third book in the series. I'm not sure yet. I'm actually in the mood for something "Dresden," but since I've read all of that, it would mean backtracking or getting the graphic novels, and I haven't priced those yet. I've got some "Farscape" comics to catch up on as well, and quite frankly, I've been in the mood for a good ol' HOMOSEXUAL novel. Now, if I could have the best of BOTH worlds - a GOOD sci fi novel with gay themes - I think I'd probably faint. GAY GEEKS UNITE!!!! (Okay, I'm done.)

I've also got a friend in Seattle who has mentioned having me come and visit, but there are many things to be arranged in something like that, and as you probably know, dear reader, I am not much of a traveler. Still, it could be nice.

Anyway, that's a brief update. Sort of.

Yeah.

This is going to be my next computer.

I'm really liking the idea of a nice, clean operating system without all the clutter. I don't need three media players I can't uninstall, and four instant messengers I have "just in case." Plus, it gives me the chance to DITCH MICROSOFT without putting up with Macs, which are just as bad.

I plan on installing Ubuntu-eee on it to free up some space on the tiny 4 gig hard drive. It sounds small as all hell, but my needs are simple.

I'll let you know how things go with it... as soon as I obtain it, of course.

The Law of Motion

I haven't been as productive in general as I'd like.

I think that I am lonelier than I realize, and I'm slightly worried that a curse could come true. Being lonely isn't the same as being alone, of course, but lonely isn't fun.

I find myself at an odd situation in my life. At the age of 35, where do I go to make new friends? Especially since I never have money to spare to go out with. As a child, I didn't make friends easily, and believe me, it does not get easier as you get older.

Another obstacle is that I'm fairly specific on what it is I want. Most of my friendships have been of the intense variety, and I must confess I prefer it that way. Most people my age don't have the time for the intensity I so desperately miss. In one's thirties, if you're going to invest a lot of energy into a relationship, they want it to be THE relationship, and I don't need that. I have that.

I just need the rest. Kinda' funny that the part everyone else finds so easy is the difficult part for me, and the part that everyone finds so difficult is the part I've had for years.

I guess this is why I have these little white pills. To carry me through it.

I'm A Dork...

Have I mentioned that I'm a dork?

Probably not, since this is the first time I've posted here...  You have to start somewhere, though, right?

I've had a LiveJournal for years, but they're getting silly with ads and paid accounts and random Russian people subscribing to things.  It's not what it used to be.  The advantage of LJ used to be that there was a social component that wasn't available in many other blogging software and sites.  With networking sites like Myspace and Facebook taking the place of such things, LJ has kinda' lost its edge.  Icons?  Please... I can upload small pics to Picasaweb and use them just the same way, and THOSE are unlimited.  So I've decided to try this for a while.

And for my first post, I've decided to show you the laptop bag I made out of duct tape.  It's dorky as all hell, but I'm quite proud of it!  It started as a blue Shop N Save bag or two, which I used for basic shape.  I saw some instructions that said to use shapes cut out of cardboard, but I didn't want anything that firm.  I wanted it to move, more like fabric, and this bag does just that.

Now that I've gotten a first version of it done, though, I may decide to do another one, a bit more tailored to my laptop.  I'm thinking camouflage with black accents... kuz I'm butch that way.
